What are your qualifications for office?
Matthew T. Ashworth: I am the only candidate with a jobs plan that will put American workers back to work. I have an urgent message for America, and that is that if we don’t do something about outsourcing, America is not going to have many job opportunities left for future generations.
John A. Boehner: SW Ohio is my home. It’s where Debbie & I raised our daughters & where I ran a small business-it’s where I still live today. After five years of the president’s failed policies, nothing pains me more than traveling our area to meet with small businesses & families struggling to deal with all the burdens being handed down from Washington. I’m committed to fighting bad policy-like ObamaCare, higher taxes, & more spending-while offering a better way. I’ve led the way in stopping new jobs-crushing taxes, slashing Congress’s own budget, banning earmarks & cutting spending while putting forward a budget that balances in 10 years & successfully repealing ObamaCare’s burdensome small business paperwork mandate. But my work is far from finished-if given the opportunity to serve again, I’ll continue working to create a better environment for job growth by eliminating wasteful government spending, stopping federal tax hikes, tackling excessive regulations, & curbing our job-crushing federal debt.
What is your top priority for your district and what are your plans to address it?
Matthew T. Ashworth: The reason I have entered the race to be the next congressman to represent Ohio’s 8th district is because I believe I have some solutions to improve the economy and create jobs.
1. I believe implementing the FairTax is the greatest weapon we can use to cure our massive unemployment and disastrous economy.
2. We should require all federal contracts be awarded to American firms employing American workers only. It’s an affront to the American worker that the Obamacare website contract was awarded to a foreign firm over an American firm…twice, by this administration.
3. We should impose financial disincentives on firms that outsource American jobs overseas, in order to equalize the price of labor between American and foreign labor markets.
Enacting these proposals along with going forward with the Keystone pipeline and starting to convert our country to natural gas would create a modern American economic renaissance and that is my top priority for my district and the country.
John A. Boehner: My top priority is listening and addressing the priorities of the families, individuals and the small businesses that make our area great. As Speaker, I’ve led the House in the fight to rein in Washington spending, repeal ObamaCare and revitalize manufacturing to help create good southwest Ohio jobs. We’ve made some real progress in the face of a strong and united White House and Democratic-controlled Senate, but there is still so much to be done. Republicans have a real opportunity to continue advancing better solutions for jobs, and greater opportunities, and I am committed to continuing to lead these important efforts.
In representing all constituents in your district, is working with fellow representatives of all parties necessary to achieve your goals? Why or why not?
Matthew T. Ashworth: I will not work with fascist progressives because their agenda is destroying America. They must be challenged and stopped at every opportunity. Compromise is further surrender.
John A. Boehner: Creating jobs and growing our economy continue to be the top priorities of the American people. I’m willing to work with anyone – regardless of party affiliation – on those priorities. Ohioans expect Republicans and Democrats to find the common ground necessary to get things done to benefit the American people, and that is my goal every day.
